The Living Room

Our lovely gathering space is now booking limited events by registration only.

The Living Room is an accessible community resource space in the Old East Heritage District. Pre-Covid, we hosted over one-hundred community group events/gatherings. As the CED Housing Initiative becomes more sustainable, we are able to offer increased space to the community for programming important to the basic quality of life for our citizens who struggle in poverty. The programs are designed and operated by the community.

Events

During COVID-19, events have been adjusted to provide support programs, outreach and resources, such as the work of our Nursing team, who had delivered 50 Welcome Baby Hampers and assembled 30 additional baskets for expectant moms and 25 for our most elderly folk who live alone.

We now are adapting to a slow opening. Registered participants have a rapid test test upon arrival and are asked to utilize hand sanitizer and mask. We recently hosted our first on-site community event: LIFESPIN Welcome Baby Fair 2023! The Photo Booth was a hit with the expectant moms, who also received important information regarding pregnancy, health and access to free resources. Agency participants at the Fair included, the London Health Unit, Fanshawe Doula students, our LIFE*SPIN Advocate, Nicole Davis, Community Volunteer Income-tax Income representative from LIFE*SPIN and Childreach. Happy moms left with big smiles, generous door prizes and beautiful baby hampers.

Workshops

Educational workshops are usually booked year-round in the Living Room. In order to continue to help folks access information resources, we have just completed designing a more user-friendly website to enable residents to more easily access support resources and make application for outreach supports and programs. Access to online resources is complemented with mail-out resources for those who lack financial resources or the technical skills to use the internet. Other tangible supports, (such as free hearing tests, and the Seniors Fair 2024) will be held on site.
