Medical Resources

It is important to keep yourself and your children healthy. This means eating well, getting enough rest, and having regular checkups with your family doctor. OHIP covers the cost of your doctor. The only requirement for OHIP is that you be a full-time resident of Ontario. If you are receiving OW or ODSP, your OHIP costs are covered automatically. There are many resources in London available to you to maintain a good standing of physical health. It also includes Dental Health, Vision Health.

Mental Health Resources

Looking after your mental health is just as important as your physical health. As a low-income and/or sole-support parent, you will be under a great deal of stress and tension. It is not easy being a parent at the best of times, and even more difficult when there is only one of you. The first thing to remember is, don’t feel guilty. You can’t be the perfect mother or father. If you think that you need some extra help in dealing with all the stresses in your life, don’t feel bad. The first step to take, in order to feel better, is to get help. There are several ways to do this. First, see your doctor. They can refer you to a psychiatrist. Psychiatrists are covered by OHIP. Another options is a private or group counselor.

Wellbeing Resources

Enjoying community events as a spectator, or participating in art, music, theater, and dance are important to spiritual, emotional, and physical health. Being low-income and/or having large families is often a barrier to enjoying the arts. However, there are a number of events and places to attend in London for free that are for adults and families. These events connect you to your community, introduce you to new ideas and people, and allow you to relax, have fun, be creative, and get out of the house!
