Our recommended resources for housing, health, specialized transportation, recreational activities, services for Indigenous residents, and other resources available to our older adults in our community.

Some services may be offered in a different method(s) due to Covid-19. Website links are provided for a quick reference. Every attempt has been made to make you aware of a service if it is temporarily offered in a different method.

LIFE*SPIN 2021 Seniors Tea

2024 at LIFE*SPIN held an opportunity for our older adult clients at LIFESPIN to participate in our First 2024 LIFESPIN Senior’s Fair! It was a grand event with many supports in our community participating. Great information and door prizes galore! Later in the month, our LIFE*SPIN Advocate, Nicole Davis, held a workshop central to Senior Pensions and Finance Supports. If you happened to miss it, you can watch the video here. (bottom of page).

City of London

The City of London offers a range of activities for Older Adults. This website also offers a variety of additional Older Adult Living information, including their Kiwanis Seniors Centre and The Age Friendly Network.

The Age Friendly London Network is a community-based network with the vision of a diverse, vibrant, caring, and healthy community, that empowers all individuals to age well and have opportunities to achieve their full potential. They offer a wide variety of services, including finding employment and volunteer opportunities.

Helping seniors and people with disabilities stay independent, active, and socially connected. They are also helping seniors stay safe and making Ontario more accessible for everyone and promoting the benefits of age-diverse, accessible workplaces and communities where everyone is able to participate.

Canadian Cancer Society

The Canadian Cancer Society has a wealth of information available to you. Their website displays information about diagnosis, how to get help, information for when you need help with travel and transportation and, if you are outside London, they can also help you with temporary residence.

Wellspring

Wellspring is a volunteer organization in the Y.M.C.A. in London. They offer support (one-on-one or groups) in a warm and caring environment for individuals and caregivers living with Cancer.

You can also sign up for free massages, yoga, Thai Chi, or Art Therapy. They also have a small library, where you can read about your diagnosis. Whatever your needs are, Wellspring is a good first step to take if you are living with Cancer.

Parkinson Society

The Parkinson Society has a wealth of information on their website for coping with Parkinson’s Disease.

Deaf Ontario

The Ontario Association for the Deaf can act on a broad base, and help you remove any physical barriers you may be experiencing due to stigmas, or the daily challenges for people living with deafness. The society also offers social events for the hard of hearing individuals, which is a good way to socialize and meet new people alike.

If your doctor has diagnosed you with this illness, this is the website to turn to. It gives you information about the symptoms, diagnosis, and what to expect during this uncertain time in your life.

Alzheimer’s Society Southwest Partners

The Alzheimer Society offers a wide range of programs to help you, whether it is for Mild Cognitive Impairment, Dementia, or Alzheimer’s Disease. This organization is here to help you, whether you want some information, or are looking for a diagnosis. The first step is to speak with a representative, and they will help you to take the next step. Early diagnosis and intervention is the key to slowing down the decline in mental and cognitive functions.

Housing

Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada

Co-operative housing corporations offer low rent, the feeling of being a valued member with voting rights, and socialization through a wide variety of activities. Applications are accepted at the address provided on their contact page, or at the City of London.

Veterans Affairs Canada

VAC provides help for Veterans looking for housing and other home life supports. The VAC Assistance Service provides free and confidential psychological support that is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The service is for all Veterans, former RCMP members, their families, and caregivers.1-866-522-2122

Meals On Wheels provides freshly made or frozen meals to seniors and adults living with disabilities who are in need of nutritional support. Subsidies are available. Apply online through their website. You can also apply on the phone or in person.

Specialized Transportation

March of Dimes

This organization assists with maintaining independence, personal empowerment, and community participation. They have a variety of programs specifically engineered to meet the demands of daily living for physically challenged individuals of all ages. No matter what your physical, developmental, recreational, or transportation needs, March of Dimes is here for you.

London Transit

LT services delivers a range of transportation options to meet the needs of adults who have a disability that prevents them from being able to take the regular route of transit services at a regular transportation fee. The services available are: Community Bus, Para Transit, Medical Transportation. Application is required (by phone or online).

Wheels for Wellness London

Meals on Wheels London provides service to adults 18+ with disabilities, seniors 55+ and/or anyone of any age whose personal care plan needs support. These needs can be short term (caregiver relief, recuperation, seasonal) or long-term assistance. No long-term contract is required. The minimum order on registration is either five daily meals or one package of seven frozen meals.

The YMCA offers activities, regardless of your ability or fitness level, for seniors 55+. Please check out their website for a full list of activities available to you.

This is a government website. They are located in London. They offer information about health, social activities, and support services for Indigenous residents in Southwestern Ontario.

Snow Angels Canada offers an alternative to the expensive snow removal option available from municipal organizations. Snow Angels is a community-fuelled tool to connect neighbours and individuals to their neighbourhood.
