Western Engineering Students make an Impact at LIFE*SPIN with their Stair Climber Project!

LIFE*SPIN appreciates the Students and Projects from Fanshawe College and Western University!

LIFESPIN student projects were plentiful this year! We hosted a cast of amazing students from both Fanshawe College and Western University 2023/24. Our students from Addictions and Mental Health provided excellent assistance in working, especially with our senior and new mother’s client base at LIFESPIN for our 2 fairs, as well as registrations for all programs. Our Fanshawe Doula students assisted with baby baskets and developed a published booklet for new moms as well as set up the Baby Fair. We had a student from Brescia, working with Odie at the Free Store, in assisting clients with registration in both at the Free Store and with workshops and special events. Our Pro Bono students provided an excellent resource publication for seniors; and our Social Justice and Peace student single-handedly organized with other community members a Tenant Information Fair at City Hall! Fanshawe College placements in their Social Service Worker program provided assistance to our LIFE*SPIN Community Advocate in her client work. All such important community work! The CEL program students included the faculty of Biology where they participated in making up booklets and also planted seeds for our Pocket-Size Farm Day Campers! Also in CEL, our Mechanical Engineering team created a stair climber to assist a senior in our community to climb stairs. Other projects included media assistance from Western’s Media team, Environmental Health for researching parks and a housing development community and finally our Occupational Therapy class reached out to seniors and accessing a trial learning program for seniors in accessing computers and computer learning.

We established so many programs of outreach with all of these students help from a successful Baby Fair for new moms and a Senior Fair for Seniors in our community. These placements in our community play an important role in community outreach, and for this we thank you!! Hopefully this work will establish a hearty experience for their future endeavors they undertake!
